Violinist, composer, and conductor Gregory Abrell made his professional solo debut in 2005 with the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Ravel's Tzigane. Mr. Abrell subsequently went on to win first prize in the Symphony North Young Artist Competition of Houston.
Living now in Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Abrell is pursuing a Diploma in Music Performance and Composition at the Longy School of Music. Festival appearances include the Steinhardt Quartet Seminar, St. Lawrence String Quartet Workshop, Wintergreen Performing Arts, the International String Workshop (Graz, Austria), the American Festival for the Arts, and Lyricafest.
As concertmaster of the Austin High School Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Abrell also served as its assistant conductor. The orchestra toured the United States with performances in San Francisco, Dallas, and Chicago, culminating in a concert in New York's Carnegie Hall.
Principal teachers include Laura Bossert, Andrzej Grabiec, and Zachary Carrettin. Mr. Abrell has coached chamber music with William Preucil, Pamela Frank, Joseph Kalichstein, Terry King, and members of the Emerson, Ying, St. Lawrence, Brentano, Pacifica, and Borromeo String Quartets.
